Description and documentation

Lunula is a name applied to crescent-shaped ornaments. The British Museum documents, among other examples, a gold lunula and crescent-shaped dress ornaments. Shape alone does not establish origin, ritual function or the wearer's gender. This design is the library's graphic interpretation; we do not present it as a copy of a particular Slavic amulet. This page presents style B of the catalog form; it is not evidence of a separate historical tradition.
