Description and documentation
The Met describes yin and yang as interdependent, changing aspects of the natural order. The icon refers to the recognizable two-part taiji composition. It does not imply a universal guide to interpreting colors or assigning fixed traits to people. No historical artifact has been identified as the prototype for this particular drawing.
